This book was a mix between hilarious and angsty and I lovedddd it! Usually I’m a flashback’s biggest hater, but I loved learning about these two as they were children! This book was truly so entertaining and I never wanted to stop listening… oh and those narrators?? AMAZING

This review of the audiobook. I received this from Valentine PR in exchange for my honest opinion.

Colton and Josie grew up across the street from one another. They spent every waking hour together. As they got older, it evolved into more, even when they were forbidden from being more than friends. A few weeks before high school graduation, Colton breaks Josie’s heart.

Now 17 years later they’re back in each other’s lives, professionally at least at first. Colton, is now Detective Colton Mosley, and Josie is the medical examiner. Colton is also, a single dad now 🥵 who doesn’t love a hot single dad!

While they’re investigating a murder, things started to speed up, and a sets off a string of events, that leaves them both scratching their heads. This story had me binge listening because I was so sucked into the plot!

I absolutely love romantic suspense, it’s the best of two worlds! Be prepared for a cliffhanger…. It’s not one I saw coming 🤯 I love who strong, Josie is as a fmc!

Ok, so I've been meaning to start reading Jewel E Ann's books for a while. Do I have several of her books on my Kindle? Yes. Have I read them yet? No. So, I have Pieces of Life in my hot little hand today, and I am off work for labor day, so let's do this! Several hours later, I finished the book. Yep read it in one sitting it was that good. I had all the emotions as I read. I laughed out loud (Jewel, your voices of young Colten and Josie were hilarious), I teared up, I gasped, I growled, and I loved every second of it. The dual POVs made the book, especially the later part when we're trying to grasp what Josie is going through. I swear, though, just when I think things are about to settle down, well, ha, not so fast there. Here's a plot twist for you. Like that? Here are some more. Oh, and wait, just for cliffhanger purposes, I'm going to throw this in as the last line! OHMIGOODNESS!!! I just kind of sat there stunned, wishing for the next book. I know it's coming soon, but ugh.

All I can tell you is this book is dynamite and filled with all that makes angst in a book worth it. It's not too angsty, but it's enough that you get invested in the characters' lives and walk through their story with them. I was rooting for Colten from the beginning, and he had work to do. But Josie is the kind of character I will remember for a while. So, needless to say, I need the next book. NOW!

Josie and Colten grew up together as neighbors, best friends, and sometimes more. But when Colten broke Josie’s heart after graduation, she swore she’d hate him forever.
Seventeen years later, Colten is suddenly back in Josie’s life. She is now a talented medical examiner, while he is a homicide detective in the same city. Just when things are starting to look up for the two of them, Josie has a near death experience, and then the visions begin.

There’s so much to love about this story. Alternating between Josie and Colten’s perspectives, from childhood memories to present day, their childhood friends to enemies to lovers is a wonderful story all on its own. Their relationship is long and complicated, but they are so perfect for each other. But then you add in the extra element of the unexplainable nightmares and visions, and things start to get a little creepy too! Romance and thrillers are my favorite two genres, but it is so hard to find an author who can combine the two so masterfully!

The only negative of this book is that it ends in a suspenseful cliffhanger and I have to wait for the next one to come out - I’m so glad it’s only a couple of weeks!

Pieces of Life releases on September 13th, and the sequel Memories of a Life releases September 27th! Special thanks to Valentine PR and Jewel E Ann for sharing an ARC with me in exchange for my honest review!

This grabbed me and didn’t let go! Colten broke Josie’s heart when they were younger and now it’s been 17 years they’ve been apart. Worlds collide again and angst ensues. Absolutely recommend this book and all of Jewel E. Ann’s works. You can’t go wrong!

It is such an unconventional romance, and I’m here for it all.

A girl who's obsessed with all things dead, a man who's become something totally unexpected since we have met him years ago.

A childhood friendship, a young romance that ended in heartbreak and a second chance now. That's how I would describe this story.

I got goosebumps while reading some of these scenes. It creeps me out but also grabbed my attention because I want to know what's happening and where is the author taking the suspense.

That ending was so unfair, but I know book two comes out soon, so I’m looking forward to it as this duet might be my most expected and favourite of the year.

Omg!!! That ending!!! This book… I’m a little speechless right now, so hopefully I can get my brain to cooperate and formulate some words! I have read books by Jewel E Ann before and loved them. She’s an incredible writer. She writes complex characters and builds great worlds with incredible storytelling. This book is definitely no exception. Colten and Josie are going to stick with me for a while, and that’s with only reading half of their duet so far! I love having the back story of their childhood together. I love the snippets of memories of then and now. I am desperate to know more about each of them and their times apart. I need to know especially more about Josie and why she is the way she is. I have so many mixed feelings about young Colten but adult Colten… I’m here for. I love his dedication. I love that he’s her ride or die, no matter what. The first half of this book was good. I was entertained. I enjoyed the childhood friendship between the two characters and the ‘what do we do now’ thing that happened after their reunion. But the last half of this book… omg. I couldn’t stop reading. It’s suspenseful, dramatic, creepy, engaging, so many different things. I’ll finish my review by saying I am on THE EDGE of my seat (and maybe my sanity

I wasn't sure about this book because I've read a few others by her and couldn't get into them. But I loved these books. Josie is a strong yet insecure doctor and Colten is her detective soulmate. They grew up together and then drifted apart for almost two decades. Josie is carrying a serious grudge against Colten but he refuses to back down. I normally hate separations that last that amount of time but it worked in their case. Sometimes flashbacks throw you off in a story but the ones here worked really well. The plot kind of goes out there 3/4 of the way in but that leads into the second book.

This book ends on a cliffhanger and the second book kind of wraps things up quickly at the end but overall I read both books in one day because I couldn't wait to finish Colten and Josie's story. I am not sure these are necessarily five star reads but close enough.

WOW! This story was so good! I couldn’t put it down. Josie was a character I have never read before. She was so sure of herself even as a child. She and Colton had such a special friendship. He was hers, and she was his. Well she would probably say “He is mine, and I am mine.” It took them sometime to get there.

It was also funny. Little Colton was funny. I’m telling you the “infamous” scene had me crying I was laughing so hard.

This book took a paranormal turn that turned my mind inside out! It is friends to enemies, friends to lovers, second chance, suspenseful with a paranormal vibe. This author never fails to deliver! I need the second book!
