Great New Orleans noir, with all the virtues of the first collection. I'd rather have had another full-length adventure in this album than the essay on the use of watercolors that didn't reveal new insights or nuances of the story that I didn't pick up on the initial read. But, there are a pair of two-page "short stories" at the end to tantalize.

Loved getting a peek into the art process behind this story. "Spit at The Sky" was an excellent short story!!

Pacing felt a bit wonky, particularly when it came to transitioning between flashbacks and present narratives. Still, gorgeous work and an overall satisfying noir genre story.

Blacksad is a black cat who quite frankly, seems to be the cat version of Idris Elba. Honesty, I want Elba to do the voice of Blacksad in a animated feature. Please!
Like the first volume (or first tranlsated collection to be extact), this installment does touch on race. While I am not entirely sure if the whole plot is historically based, there has been a history of cancer areas in poor and black sections of New Orleans as well as the lead poisioning that occured after Katrina.
Using animals to examine the issues as well as conveay a plot about a missing jazz musican is wonderfully done and harkens back to Maus.
Blacksad is part gumshoe as well.
This edition contains two short stories at the end, and the one about war is particularly powerful.

First of this series that I've read. The art is beautiful and the story is good. And tragic.

Not quite as powerful as the first 3 but equally as exciting. The art in these graphic novels is so on point. Almost like a Disneyland Noir

New Orleans, Mardi Gras, jazz musicians, voodoon and drugs. Needless to say, what's not to love? The artwork is top-notch, as always, and the plot intriguing and well-written. The edition is absolutely amazing, with extras and short stories.
