I love the Virgil Flowers books and this was does not disappoint. You pretty much know what you are going to get in one of these books, and it is well delivered in this one. Although you've done it, there is still some suspense and plenty of humor. All in all, its a very entertaining read.

Viva Virgil Flowers! My favorite serial good guy. Eric Conger is definitely the voice of Virgil Flowers. Add in John Sandford, who created Virgil, and you have a perfect trinity. I could listen to Virgil problem-solving and telling about his escapades for days on end. The beginning of this (book 9 in the series) started out just a tiny bit slowly. However, I didn't despair because I knew it would get more interesting quickly. Yup. There were two main plot lines happening - a personal one involving Virgil's girlfriend, Frankie and her sister; and one involving his job as the head investigator into the robbery/kidnapping of two endangered tiers from the Minnesota Zoo. Both got stickier and stickier and it's Virgil's job to keep his head above water and his paces closer and closer to the perpetrators. Good reading. 4.5

An excellent story but not really up to Sanfords standards. A little slow but fun nonetheless.

Once again, a very entertaining and humorous book about Virgil Flowers, with the usual dumb and/or crazy villains; where do they find these guys? Oh, yeah, they're made up.

To start with, a group of guys decide to steal a pair of rare, endangered tigers from the zoo to break down into various parts for the Chinese to ingest. Virgil is called in to try to get the guys, hopefully before they kill the tigers. The Chinese buyer is a pretty evil and money-hungry criminal from China, along with his son. The American side is a money-hungry sociopath or psychopath who doesn't mind killing anyone who might be in his way, and doesn't mind killing a few innocents along the way.

There's a side story involving Virgil's girlfriend and her sister, who get beat up because the sister is trying to expose the management of a local sweatshop factory. The two stories are not related, but only confuse the issues because they don't know which group is doing what crimes.

Interesting story with some good lines.

I was too distracted by hoping the tigers were okay to read this fully. I had to skip to the end to make sure they were okay.
Spoiler Only one was
. I do okay with human death...animal death, not so much. So I HAD to know.

After I read the end I went back and read the book, and even then I wasn't too impressed by it. I think I was just too obsessed with the tigers to think straight, so I might have to reread this at a later date and actually try and put in some effort.

But for now, it gets a two stars. (I'm terrible, I know. But I didn't have the patience for Virgil in this book. It felt so drawn out!)
