I liked Nona, but not as much as the previous two. It definitely hurts from being the first half of a book and I felt it could have been edited down.

I loved Nona as a character and enjoyed the interactions of her with the children. I just wish it went somewhere. I also enjoyed seeing the scenes of this strange domestic life the characters had carved out.

I had not read any of the short stories set inbetween the books before starting this one. Which I think hindered my understanding of what was going on. The Blood of Eden story was difficult to follow as well as why Coronabeth had joined up.

The interludes of John and Harrow were some of my favourite parts of the book. I will quote "Did you know cows watch sun sets" regularly.

I'm going to give this the benefits of the doubt and see what happens in the next book.
However I really wasn't getting behind this personality change with Gideon. It seems to be hunted that there's more going on with Nona saying she's really sad. So, I'm hoping there's something else that will be revealed.

Absolutely incomprehensible, very compelling though. Plans to reread in the future when my brain doesn’t hurt anymore

a far more enjoyable read than Harrow, which at times was genuinely fun, but suffers the Gideon effect of a rushed finale that you are expected to just accept (and i now fear that might be the author’s schtick…)

at any given time I'm probably thinking about listening to the Locked Tomb books again just to experience this one again with full context.
