I love retellings, and I love morally grey characters. So yeah, it has both and I liked all the plot twists there in this book! :D

Also there is something I usually don't mind in other books but I loved here: reasons to hate/love anyone and misunderstandings.

Okay woah another top fave of the year!!! This book is such a refreshing new take on fairytales and mythology. I loved learning that the author pulled from ancient Persian mythology to create the language and naming. I also really loved that it had obvious fairytale tropes, but wasn’t predictable. I was pleasantly surprised at the plot twists and turns this book went through! It reminded me of Haroun and the Sea of Stories and The Wrath and the Dawn, so if you liked those you should definitely read this book!
