This was not what I was expecting, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't know how to rate this one, but I really felt it.

I greatly enjoyed reading this and saying it. So many poems hit me, I had to stop and read them out loud. Beautiful experience.

Incredibly moving and representative of stories that so many black girls know to be true in the fabric of their being. Some parts failed to connect, but the artistry asks you to connect them on your own which is empowering for the reader so I appreciated it. Ewing’s writing is remarkably unforgettable. I am changed after reading this.

This was really my first foray into poetry outside of what was forced on me in school. And this book was not written for me, and that’s okay. I liked it, even if I didn’t always “get” it. Because of this, I don’t think I can rate it

There were some poems that resonated (“why you cannot touch my hair”), but overall I found this collection hard to get through

The poetry in this volume lives up to the title - its electric and vital. Highly readable and dare I say, even entertaining while getting at her personal experience in ways essays or fiction could not reach.
