I absolutely adored [b:The Weight of Silence|6335026|The Weight of Silence|Heather Gudenkauf|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1348679436l/6335026._SY75_.jpg|6520850]! Heather Gudenkauf had me on the edge of my seat until the very end, and I was dissapointed it was over!

This was okay. I really liked the scenes in the woods told from the girls points of view, as I thought the author did a good job putting that fear and youth into words. The plot was really predictable, though, so bad it was distracting.

I read about 50 pages before I got too irritated by the writing. Then I skimmed the rest to find out what happened. All the characters had the same voice, including the children. Laughed at the ultra-cheesy dream at the end. The giant crow that knocks the perp into the ravine half a second before he attacks the little girl is convenient to the point of ludicrousness.

This felt more like a character study than a thriller. I’ve read 2 other Heather Gudenkauf books and this one is definitely my least favorite of the 3

It was OK. Sort of a bummer when you can ignore the most obvious Red Herring ever and pick up on the multiple hints of who is responsible. That being said, I spent the last 100 pages of the story frustrated that the author was still trying to keep the obviously false lead going since by 50% of the book the actual person responsible had been brought up in memories at a minimum of 4 times doing some super creepy shit.

Also really didn't like many of the characters. As others have said, no one sits there recounting all their past life events of their love and mistakes when their kids go missing. Or, if they did, I'd have to say they are much more self-involved than interested in finding their missing child.

Then there is the whole "the author doesn't really understand what selective mutism is and thought it was be a handy plot device."

This was a page turner for me. The story is not a thriller; it is a little of a suspense, but not so much in the "who done it" kind of way. It was pretty clear who is to be implicated, but it is how the author moves you through wanting it to be someone else but at the same time not wanting it to be that person! There are some flashback scenes and you wonder at times why they are there but overall I enjoyed them. It was a fun read and I am now going to move to other of her novels. This is the second one I read and they were both very enjoyable.
