The forest and the relationships were really well thought out. I liked the build up to the relationship and it was queer so always bonus points for that. However the political intrigue was to much for this book and in the end it really didn't make sense (like in a ya novel). I feel like the story and ideas were to complicated for the length of the book.

3.5 that doesn't quite kick it up the notch I'd need to round up. This feels like a taste - there's so much that is left unsaid, and I would love to read more in this world from Breger. What we get feels like skimming the surface - it's great, and the characters we meet are colorful and instantly endearing, but never feels like enough, which I think comes from it being that in-between length from novella to novel. It's long for a novella but short for a novel.

I really enjoyed this book, all the pieces were super delightful, but it didn’t feel like a complete story to me, I finished it and felt like I’d been cut off in the middle of something that I was getting pretty invested in,  would love a sequel.

I loved this book, i went in expecting some generic fantasy and queer romance and from page one was pleasantly surprised by the quality of writing and the wit of the story, I am in love with all the characters, the scenery, the jokes, the friendly banter, everyone please read this book, and no, I will not take any criticism on it.

All the characters were unique and loveable in their own way and it didn't feel like your stereotypical "save the princess" fantasy book.
By typical I mean many things. Yes there are kings, knights, woodland creatures, and magic etc. And the romance aspect isn't a super heavy topic. But a lot of the story is surrounded by mystery and secrets that give it a different kind of depth instead of stating things matter-o-factly.
I also loved the mlm and wlw representation because for the post part it was so pure and happy.
Definitely a good read for Pride month.
