This book is definitely a product of its time. The amount of unnecessary slurs threw me off, and nothing much happens besides a pessimistic view of friendship.

A book I should have read when I was 17, but glad I’m reading at 27. Glad I haven’t seen the movie, and glad I got out of my hometown. An ode to the fleeting grey area when you change from a kid to a teenager. To middle school friends who never saw each other again. I got arrested the summer after freshman year with a guy that I would’ve died for that I haven’t seen since, and I’m the better for it. A good book that feels more mature that it ought to be, but without the maturity of 11 year olds, it would be nothing.
