I am a big fan of the TV show Comic Book Men and I love the cast which includes the author and artist of this book Walt Flanagan and Bryan Johnson. However, I have noticed how Kevin Smith use his influence to to push his friend's works. And Cryptozoic Man is the perfect example of this. I did not like the first issue yet gave it a try and finished the second issue before putting the book down for good. I am glad I did not buy a paperback and instead read the digital copy because I would not be able to live with the guilt that trees had to be cut down to make paper for this horrible book.

I'm of two minds about this book. Walt Flanagan's toootally twisted artwork is epic, but the overall story is too confusing and abstract to really live up to it. It's an interesting idea but it just isn't executed as well as it could've been. If you're a fan of the creators' fantastic podcast Tell 'Em-Steve Dave or their TV show Comic Book Men you'll find things to enjoy here, for sure, but I can't recommend it to the casual reader.
