The core ideas are meaningful, but the datedness of some of the examples and turns of phrase was a bit cringey.

Recommend this series to everyone. It’s great for any age. While the examples may be dated in some instances … the topics and advice are all relevant. I love that the examples are real. They are executable.

The examples honestly read so fake and unrealistic. Everything is way too easy, no complexity really. I did like the reminder of communication strategies but it honestly could have been a pamphlet rather than a 200 page book.

Die Grundaussage dieses Ratgebers ist schlichtweg, Probleme zu beschreiben und sich in andere hineinzufühlen. Dem stimme ich natürlich voll und ganz zu. In den Beispielszenarien wurden diese Empfehlungen auch auf Anhieb deutlich.
Leider wurde ich aber das Gefühl nicht los, dass es hierbei nur ein Schwarz oder Weiß gab, nur ein „Ich (der Lehrer) bin richtig einfühlsam und glaube an das Gute im Menschen“ oder „Ich bin sehr pessimistisch und so frustriert, dass ich das Leben meiner Schüler zur Hölle machen muss“- und kein dazwischen. In den fiktiven Dialogen wird das zuletzt genannte Verhalten zu Recht kritisiert, aber dennoch wirkten die Szenarien teilweise absichtlich überspitzt und dramatisiert. Die Probleme wirkten zudem komplexer als dass sie sich so leicht wie dargestellt lösen lassen könnten. Aber wer weiß.
Außerdem bin ich der Meinung, dass man die Tipps für Lehrer und Eltern getrennt abhandeln sollte- insbesondere, da bereits ein Ratgeber (von den gleichen Autoren?) für Eltern existiert und nun nur auf die Schule übertragen wurde?
Der englische Titel ist übrigens meiner Meinung nach besser auf die Kernaussagen abgestimmt.

These tools will not always work - but they DO work often, and frankly, that’s good enough for me. My tweens are becoming teens and I am implementing some strategies I should have long ago - hopefully they will continue to help us as a family like they have been so far.
