queen of endings

Gods this is my jam. I loved the first book, felt the differences between this series and FBAA, and thoroughly enjoyed the expansion into this world. There was great spice, intrigue, and such intricate worldbuilding, it’s truly incredible to read. Character development is superb.

I moved slow in the hopes that I could pick up on all the intricacies of this story. I was concerned to begin because we essentially get the same things happening twice in a row - talk, attack, recover, talk, attack, recover… I was worried the whole book was just going to be an up and down like this. But there was good development and expansion of the world and characters.

But the knock of a star comes from the absolute mess that is my head when I try to keep all the characters and gods and their hierarchies straight. It’s incredible how in depth this stuff is, but the execution even after being in this world for six books is lacking. I still get confused and lost when it comes to all the who’s who. I’m a way, this just felt like a really long - I don’t want to call it an information dump because it isn’t, but at the same time, there’s not really another way for me to put it when it always comes in the form of long dialogue / conversations. I think the attempt to remedy this slog was to send them zig zagging all over the place, which was a good way to show us the world, but it got a bit draggy.

Still one of my favorite series to date (between this and the FBAA series) so you know I’m gonna be clicking that preorder when the next book is available. I want to scream at the cliffhanger endings but in the best way possible.

This book is incredible, a master piece. It's everything you didn't know you needed and even more! I love every page. I went through so many emotions, I laughed, I cried, I got angry, I got excited, I screamed!!! An emotional roller coaster!

Got me from the start! I read the first 5 chapters in October and I couldn't take it anymore. Then I couldn’t put it down!

Many questions we needed were answered and there were many more! Many theories to discuss. I'm still processing everything.
I really love the easter eggs that appear, thanks JLA! It is very exciting when you find them. Also love that she includes some phrases from JLAnders, is so great! Ii makes me want to re-read all the books again and find every detail.

I loved the growth of the characters, everything they had to go through. It's amazing how JLA makes them so real, with all their internal struggles. I'm in love with them. Individual and together. I don't want to dwell too long here so as not to give spoilers. I really enjoyed their journey.
The secondary characters are the best, what to say, I love them. Some of them are soooo sweet, made my want to hug them.

I couldn't stop reading it, I finished it at 3am. The amount of plot twist, the East of eggs from previous books and what I think will be the next ones!

There is a lot of action, of all kinds! From the battles to the spicy ones! The tension between them, their relationship is fascinating. Also, thought it was really cute. While I was reading, I thought, JLA wrote everything I want to read.

There was a point in the book that was impossible to stop, one thing after and another, so much tension.

That ending, Fuck… that ending, I already need to read the next one.

Although one knows "how it ends" being able to read everything they had to go through to get there has no name, it had me trapped as if I didn't know.

JLA, you did it again! It became my favorite book in the series.

Second half addict

A Light In The Flame didn't start out as I expected; it was a slow journey to really get to some juicy plot. However, my utter connection to Nyktos and Sera kept me persevering to the good parts. There was plot in the first half, it was just slow turning, although I appreciate there was significant relationship and character development in that portion.

Then we hit halfway and BOOM! The plot took off at speed, a lot happened and I was glued while being much happier with the pacing. The story took us to safe and trechorous places, to loyalty and betrayal (I was shook) and never once did these characters lose my interest.

Meeting Kolis for the first time was an experience but Vetes took the biscuit for me in terms of evil characterisation. I liked Bele, I adored Reaver and Jadis and Nektor was pretty amazing too. Sera had depths, anxiety, hidden mental health issues and the kind of loyalty and selflessness that was admirable. Nyktos cared but that damn kardia, I need to have more from him, I feel he's almost there.

"I'm always in awe of you. I could keep going, but most of all, what I feel is the closest thing to peace I've ever experienced."

The end of this book was that kind of painful satisfactory cliff of an ending. So much so, how am I going to make it to December to get this next book? I hope the pacing is better, but I'll be here for it nevertheless.

3.75 stars rounded up.
