I thourougly enjoyed this book being a fan of both murder mysteries and fantasy trying this was a must. The mix of police procedural and folklore/fantasy is spot on. The plot is well written with enough twists and turns to keep you interested. I particularly enjoyed the descriptions of some of the lesser characters.
The author has done a fantastic job at not only bringing the characters to life but in giving the city of London a starring role, the descriptions really let you picture PC Peter Grants London and feel a sense of the mystery lurking within it.

This was a reread for me; was paging through my Kindle library, saw this one and realized I had forgotten enough about it to want to reread it. I think I got more out of it on the reread. Really liked the periodic London history deep dives. This one struck me as a more intellectual Jim Butcher novel. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

A charming diversion, this x-files style story of a london cop who finds out not all types of murder are caused by the usual stuff, is fun and well told, but the Rivers of the name felt like a complicated sideplot to the actual murder mystery and development of the cop and his mentor that kept pulling me out of the story. Incredibly well read on audio, however, and lots of potential.
