I was looking forward to this follow-up to Blood Master. I have to admit, though I love Griffin's character, I didn't enjoy this story as much as the first.
I was disappointed to find that Tassta has become a background character who has no real purpose in this book. She is the "love interest" and nothing more. She was originally portrayed as a strong woman who held her own on or off the battlefield but now the men around her won't actually let her do anything besides take care of children.
Griffin has many struggles in this one. He makes some mistakes and grows, so I certainly enjoyed watching him evolve. I am excited to see what he learns next and where his journey leads him. Will he learn to control the demons inside?
What disappointed me was the redundancy in the book. The same ideas were repeated over and over throughout. For example: an event transpires, someone relays the event to another, then we are forced to hear about it again and again in Griffin's thoughts. Honestly, if you removed the redundancies, the book would have been half as long and far less tedious to read.
A decent dystopian novel that I would certainly like to know the end to.
