I have never before noticed a book blurbed by Michael Kirby (my favourite Australian judge), and I'm glad to say that the expectations set by such high appraisal were exceeded.

Travelling through the inception of our country, this book explores the history of sexual morals within the changing tides of acceptability within Australian society. The premise of this book is fascinating, and every chapter delivers in terms of bringing to light interesting histories of sexual groups and practices. I find it hard to pinpoint a specific topic that piqued my interest, because this book never stops being intriguing.

I also really appreciated that, whilst this book is heavily researched, it isn't dry or overly academic at any point. It was intensely accessible and provided a comprehensive study into the history of Australian sexuality. Being able to see a progressive look at malleable sexual culture within Australia, feels so relevant to battles against oppression still being fought today. They place our liberal reality in perspective, which is important to understand why rights for the sexually marginalised is still necessary today.
