Loved it, some parts were absolutely genius. Loved!! some of the commentary/ poetry about language, the history of the borderlands, and identity. I’m not going to lie, a tiny bit of it went over my head, and I wasn’t sure if it was because I was too dumb or if it was simply written in a convoluted, overly metaphorical manner. Also, I was not a huge fan of the poetry at the end. I wish it had been woven throughout the book, it would’ve been a much more satisfying read that way. I feel like having a collection of poetry for the last 50 pages made the narrative feel a little discombobulated, but I’m definitely biased as someone who doesn’t connect well to poetry, and prefers poetic prose instead.

So glad this was my first book of the year. Gloria Anzaldua beautifully captures the intricate experience of being LatinX on the Mexican American border. She's gives a voice to a rich and diverse sub population we don't hear much about. It's poetry- Literally about half the book is poetry.

The essays were fantastic.
I wish I could speak/read Spanish fluently so that I could have read more of the poems. Luckily about half of the poems were written in English, and I understood the gist of some of the Spanish ones.
It really is kind of crazy that this was written so many years ago, but so much of it still holds true.
