This was an impulse read. I guess I just wasn't the intended audience. I didn't find it that funny. Oh well.

Her cultural references are dated, but I'm old so I still understand them all. She makes writing about the absurdity of family life look effortless. I will always love her.

As others have said, references are sometimes dated. Yet the message is relevant today. Read till the end, including the authors note. She is correct. And enjoy.

And if you are younger, you might understand what your mom or grandmother was living through in the 1970s.

Enjoy!

I’m not sure what this book was supposed to be. In the authors note at the end it made it seem like this was a book she wrote about her experiences reading/trying a lot of self help books. But a lot of things seemed like they were over embellished. I didn’t find it funny, and it was very dated. The only reason it got 2 stars was the guilt chapter. I definitely related to that. If my grandma hadn’t given it to me and asked if I’d read it I would have quit 30 pages in.

I generally like Erma Bombeck's books. This one just seemed strange to me. There's always the slight adjustment that needs to be made for the times. It just seemed a little too ridiculous.

*meh* It had some moments where I cracked a smile but for the most part I remain bored. Again, I should wait till I am ten years older to read her books, maybe then I will have a greater appreciation for the book.
