This book was enjoyable to me.

Here are my cons:
- The plot twist were predictable.
- The banter between Poppy and Hawke was annoying.
- The spelling of Poppy’s full name is stupid.
- I appreciate the world building, but the plot kind of drags on for a bit because of this.

I’m interested to see how the second book plays out.

I just love the whole series such an amazing book . Absolutely give a try if you are a " Enemies to lovers " trope person .

Okay, this is so intensely readable that I finished in two days, but also... I didn't really enjoy the process, I don't think? Sooooo much questionable consent that really skeeved me out and also I guessed pretty much all of the plot twists right away. That said I am intrigued by the world itself and might convince myself to read the rest of the series eventually.

Damn brilliant!
Can't stop drooling over Hawke.

This book was given to me by a previous coworker who needed to unload them before she moved.
And boy am I glad she did.

I didn't expect much at first and it started kind of slowly, but quickly took off for me! When I tell you I consumed this book... I ate it, digested it, and sustained my life force with it. I read this fucker in 3 days and COULD NOT STOP. It has been a looooong time since I have done that with a book. It was like I needed it. Needed to know more. To find out what happened. And I was so empty when it was over. I hungered for more. I actually texted my coworker like "BITCH, DO YOU HAVE THE REST OF THESE AND YOU'RE HOLDING OUT ON ME?!" (she didn't, but she felt the same way about it and knew exactly why I need them)

If you like spicy fantasy romance, are into bad boys, and want a story that keeps you on your toes; then this is the book for you. I know other reviewers have an issue with questionable consent in the book, but I think that's the point. It's not about whether Poppy wants to be with Hawke. It's about how she processes her feelings for him given her situation and the events that transpire in the story. There is no question though, that she wants him nor does he ever truly force himself on her. Poppy is more than capable of denying him, as she does several times. She just doesn't want to deny him or her feelings for him. Not everyone will agree with each other on this topic, and that's ok. We all have different experiences and opinions when reading a book.

Overall, this is a grand-fucking-slam for me and I hope it is for you too!

I was trepidatious going into this bc I have seen some really bad reviews shredding this book but I am glad I gave it a try to decide for myself bc I really ended up enjoying this story. The writing isn’t the best but it isn’t terminal, the use of modern language is cringy and the pacing in the first half of the book lagged but once you hit about 40% the story really picks up and never really slows down.
I opted for the audiobook and I’m convinced that helped the enjoyment bc it’s a very good performance and I avoided the famous ellipses and bizarre spelling of words in the written version.
