While I love Ridley x Nox, I’m not sure I got it in the way that I wanted it. The ending was not very satisfying and is such a far cry from the ending of Beautiful Creatures.

But then again, Ridley’s story is a far cry from Ethan and Lena’s.

Where Ethan sacrificed himself for others, Ridley has sacrificed everyone else for herself.

This could stand to have a final book to tie up loose ends. But I’m fine being left where it is. Ridley isn’t exactly the tying up of loose ends kinda gal.

Loved Necro and Sampson in this one. Happy to see John and Liv again. Hated Floyd in this one. Very much “I’m not like the other girls” type of character.

Dangerous Creatures doesn’t stand as tall as the Beautiful Creatures series, but I was happy to have more of the characters.

Spoiler drug addiction, cheating

I wrote my review before I was fully finished reading this book but with each chapter I became more and more disappointed in Dangerous Deception and I had to rewrite my whole review. What I thought was going to be a three star read quickly dropped to a two star read and even now I’m wondering if I should lower my rating to one star… After how much I loved Dangerous Creatures, I was not expecting Dangerous Deception to flop this hard and there’s not even a third book so this series can’t redeem itself. I’m just so mad. I really read four long books, five novellas, then an average sized book to end it all with this mess of a book.

I accidentally read [b:A Gatlin Wedding|27885186|A Gatlin Wedding (Beautiful Creatures The Untold Stories, #4)|Kami Garcia|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1449918140l/27885186._SY75_.jpg|47890590] before reading this book so I knew what the big plot twist was. It made me dread reading this book. So much time throughout the Caster Chronicles and Dangerous Creatures was devoted to developing Ridley’s character. She’s a morally grey character and her character development was spectacular, but this book in a matter of minutes tossed all of her development out the window and ruined her character. I wish anything would’ve happened in this book besides the complete destruction of all the effort put into making Ridley who she was. I’m so frustrated with this book and I wish I could rewrite a large portion of this book to change it for the better.

This book had three points of view instead of two like the previous book in the series and it did not work well. It made the time and order of events in the story get messy. Link’s chapters were filled with action while Ridley’s and Nox’s weren’t filled with as much action. It felt like more time passed in Link’s chapters based on the amount of events in them but when it came down to it, they all magically came together in the end as if the three points of view took up the same amount of time. It didn’t make sense. It also didn’t help when a character went insane/psychotic and it caused me to lose track of the timeline even more.

I’m not saying this book was completely bad. I liked getting to spend more time with Link, Floyd, and Necro in Link’s chapters, but I don’t have many other positives for this book unfortunately.

This book wasn't a deception to me at all. :)

I like Ridley even more now. Ok, I feel very sorry for Link, but I think the ending makes perfect sense to her character. She's that girl.

I'm just not impressed with this spinoff series. I don't think Garcia is writing with the same fun, captivating voice as in the Beautiful Creatures series, and her characters are so flat! I thought Ridley's thought process in this book was so scattered and boring, and the change of perspective was too slow and unconnected and made me feel disconnected from the books rather than intrigued. I hope she ends the series because the passion is totally gone.

The only reason I gave this three stars is because the book felt like a transition book and not something I could enjoy entirely as one volume in the series. After the MAJOR cliffhanger in the first book, I was expecting a roller coaster ride in the second book, but it felt more like a traveling montage. Still, I look forward to the next book and have high hopes it won't disappoint.

I really enjoyed Dangerous Deception, but the only major thing I disliked about it was the ending, and that's because it wasn't what I was expecting.
SpoilerPart of me hoped that Ridley and Nox would be in some kind of dream state, and Link would be the knight in shining armor and rescue them. This was not the case. Of course, the only person who could rescue Ridley Duchannes was Ridley Duchannes, even if she wasn't quite herself by the end of the novel.

I loved seeing the story progress through the perspectives of the different characters (those being Link, Nox and Ridley - usually in that order). It kind of reminded me of how TV shows tell their stories, except with less confusion as it is all one story arc and not multiple ones at once (I'm glaring at you, True Blood).

One of the things I really commend about the novel is that its not a copy of Beautiful Darkness, or a repeat of Dangerous Creatures, the story is completely fresh; at least something I've never personally read before. I only wish it were longer.

If you're a fan of Link, like me, then you will enjoy this book. If you're a fan of Nox, unlike me (I mean I like him but Link is my babe), then you will enjoy this book. However Ridley, despite having multiple chapters from her point of view, feels very absent from the story.
SpoilerPerhaps because she's spends most of her time high as a kite and unaware of her surroundings.
Also, don't expect much Link/Ridley (do they even have a ship name?) action, because they spend 90% of the novel separated.

All in all, this is a really enjoyable story, and I'm looking forward to seeing the next installment of the Dangerous Creatures series (assuming there is a next installment... pretty please?)
