Beatrice Hyde-Clare was visiting the London Daily Gazette when Earl of Fazeley falls down dead with a knife in his back in front of her. She and the Duke of Kesgrave investigate.
Overall an enjoyable historical mystery

(Sidewalks don't exist in Regency England, but pavements do)

I spent the whole book wondering what the real investigators were doing.

I’m officially addicted to this series. This was even better than the first book in the series. It’s full of banter and shenanigans, which are two of my favorite things. Oh, and there’s a murder, too. Dead bodies in fiction are always good.

Miss Beatrice Hyde-Clare found herself drawn into another short, sweet murder investigation. The plot around the murder itself is even simpler than in the first book. In the first book, the setting indicated that anyone among the half dozen guests could be the killer, so there were a lot of suspects to investigate. This time around, a dandy was murdered out of nowhere in the middle of a very busy street. There was no suspect to begin with but lucky for her, the murder weapon was an excellent point to start with.
A lot of this book is again the comedy between Bea and her family, plus her time with the Duke of Kesgrave. The courtship is not typical for Regency romance, it is quite unique for Bea realised how much she loved the camaraderie between them during the investigation.
By the end of this book, Miss Beatrice came to accept the truth that she enjoyed investigating murders and that she fell in love with Kesgrave.
