I came across this book after watching the movie. The movie has always been one of my favorites, so I had to give the book a try. Instantly I was engaged and didn't stop reading until the end. Being a mother makes reading difficult, but I managed to read this in a week. That is why I have this 5 stars. Beverly is so real and honest to the point that you feel like you personally know her. Bravo!

When I was a kid I used to watch the film adapted from this book all the time with my mom because it was her absolute favorite. I had no idea it was actually based off a book when I found a copy at my local library and immediately I knew I had to read it. Right off the bat, I loved Donofrio’s writing and I, personally, found her to be such an intriguing and understandable person that I really enjoyed learning more about. Overall it’s a really great coming of age memoir about a young woman turned mother who deals with trying to figure out her life while also raising a child alone.
