Very fairytale-like in terms of unrealistic wish fulfillment, but also true to characters' ages and fun. I like seeing unusual characters in fairytale hero/heroine roles, and this whole series delivers exactly that.

I think I'm obsessed with this book, and the fact that I read the whole thing in one night really supports that. Reading this gave me butterflies. I'm definitely going to check out the other Dumplin books at some point.

A fat femme gay boy learns to embrace who is he during his final weeks of his senior year. He learns to be okay being on his own while enjoying the support of those around him.

I literally hugged my book when it was over; I wish I could reread it and experience everything again for the first time. I save my 5-stars for my absolute all-time favourite reads (of which there aren’t many) but this one comes damn close. I’m so thankful to have discovered Julie Murphy’s Dumplin world, a world to which I will always happily return.
