I think the plot has improved from the first book. There was some character development. The bonds between characters have developed as well. I found this book to be more gripping and intense, and it kept me engaged.

My main hang up is the developing relationship between Rose and Dimitri.

Not as good as the first, but still made me cry/scream/etc. Honestly, my least favorite part was the reiterating of the lore. like. we obviously read the first book, you don’t need to give us a refresher course. just put in a glossary and call it a day.

This rating is reflective of how much I enjoyed this book when I originally read it, however I recognize a lot of the issues this book has now, and probably wouldn't rate it as highly anymore, despite really enjoying all rereads.

I definitely enjoyed this book a lot more than the first. The “prologue” at the beginning was poorly written and unnecessary since everything mentioned there was later explained in the story. The main arc of the story was more compelling and felt like it was setting up for something larger unlike the first book.
Mason’s death was also surprisingly emotional for me, and the aftermath of what Rose was feeling was authentic. Genuinely surprised.

I love how each book has its own plot plus over arching plot, and just based off my nostalgia and reread, it's getting better with every book. I remember the 3rd being my favorite out of the first four, but we will see! <3
