Not sure if it's the book or me, but I'm moving on to something else for now. (I *just* re-read The Martian, and Project Hail Mary is very different -- missing the charm and "must-keep-reading" vibes that Mark Watney brought to my life.)

Humanity in the strangest ways - such a powerhouse
I thought Andy Weir’s previous books were good, but in Hail Mary he reaches new heights of storytelling, character development, and empathy. Such a gripping story, well told. But most of all, what a powerful first contact that feels authentic, hilarious, and so very human.

The way this guy writes is somehow so condescendingly dumb on top of the most satisfying high concept scientific stuff. the characters are all such doofuses. it worked great in The Martian because it was mostly just the one character (also a doofus) writing a fun diary and not as much interpersonal dialogue. but it's fun speculative alien science and i'm gonna read it all. later on something happened that i didn't expect that was also very fun. it ended very cutely. but what a funny thing overall

Digerible, interesante, divertido, pero qué primera persona tan insoportable. Se acostumbra uno rápido, pero cuando te percatas más adelante te obliga a parar

If I could give more than five stars I would.
Footnote: the experience is even better if you read it with the audiobook. The audio production is AMAZING

What if alien microorganisms were overgrazing our sun?
The dialogue can get a little overly quippy at times, but the plot is gripping and emotional. True to form, the real science is highly detailed and accurate, and the made-up science is extremely well-thought-out.
