Hot firefighting park rangers!

This was sweet and hot with some very intense moments and steamy outdoor sex! There were some funny moments as well that kept things light even with a forest fire.

This was a perfect read on a rainy sunday afternoon. I read it in one go.
I loved the setting, the mountains, the cabin, lake, forest, rangers... perfect for me.
Perfect blend of action, humor, drama, sex, Jake's internal musings. All in all a slow, calm build up to a wonderful HEA ending.
I highly recommend it.

I enjoyed the book - i really liked the back story of the fire rangers, fire fighting, the different techniques etc and probably could have read more of that - especially a follow up on the fire starters, tracking them down and seeing justice done.
I enjoyed Jake and Kurts dance around each other, though I was perhaps not as invested as I could have been. Jake did confuse me a bit - no experience of any kind but also quite aggressive and knowing.
Anyway, a good story, will look atthe others in the series

It's probably more of a 3.5 star rating.

While I did enjoy this book, there was just something about it that didn't completely click with me as well. I just can't put my finger on what exactly. It didn't grab me from the start and I never really got there.

Jake and Kurt are cute together I will admit that. The story is also well written and nothing felt rushed or forced. I will also read the next one, because I do want to know what happens next after all. And maybe I'll find that it was simply the mood I was in at this point in time... I hope so.

This is a slowly-building romance between Jake, a young college guy doing a short-term job as a fire fighter in the Colorado Rockies, and Kurt, the slightly older and more experienced ranger he's teamed with. There is a lot of sexual tension which lasts through much of the book, and some nicely heated scenes once the tension is resolved.

The descriptive atmosphere of this one is well done, with details of the guys' mountain life that make the situation vivid. There are some nice little moments of humor, and the angst of attracted-to-the-straight-guy isn't overdone, although it lasts a long time. The romance arc is fairly predictable, but the adventure plot kept me reading along.

My edition included a nice little short story at the end, that gave a lot of insight into Kurt's viewpoint. Although it happens earlier in time, I think it would be a mistake to read it before the novel. It serves well as a look back at a formative event for Kurt. I enjoyed getting to know him better, since the novel is exclusively from Jake's POV, and in some ways Kurt was the more interesting guy. The story was a nice bonus.

I do not care to continue on with this series. Nothing happens until the end between the two main leads and then it just flashes to an epilogue where they are planing happily ever after.

I loved the premise of the book so much that I kept reading it, even though the writing was killing me. I wanted to read about firefighters so bad, that I forced myself to read it. Glad, I'm done with it. Didn't enjoy.

Sexy rangers in the mountain, that's a good premise, isn't it?

What we have here is very good writing, a delightful setting with lovely scenery, but, IMHO, the romance wasn't all that could have been. Jake seems... obsessed. And by the time he's hiding in the woods, while spying Kurt masturbating, well... is downright stalkerish.

And yes, that can be me being overly sensitive, but it kind of killed the story for me :/

And it's a real shame because I love the way the author writes, I like how they structure their sentences, the flow of words... and I'll read more of this author precisely for these reasons.

But the characters here didn't really grab me, sorry.

The short story that comes as a bonus, though... that one I really enjoyed. Yes, it's sad, and I got REALLY angry at Kurt's friend and his shameful, self-loathing attitude. But I truly engaged with the characters and I understood their reactions; even when I wouldn't justify them, I understood from where they were coming. A great, short story about Kurt's past.

Finn Sterling does a superb job with the narration.

Much to my surprise, I loved this story. I loved how simple it was, yet, it was so complex. The author really knows their shit. I was impressed with the vivid details of the mountains, the fire, and it's such a fantastic getting together fic. Can we also focus on how in the end...it's like what three chapters of just them having sex. Scene by scene. And I was floored. The short story in the end - which is sort of a prequel and about Kurt's life was so lovely. The details about climbing the yosemite had me dazzled.

I had been putting this book off for a while only to now kick myself b/c I. JUST. LOVED. IT.

Ok, there was that bit about fishing but really that's my problem and not the author's.
