the way it took a friend recommending me this book to get me reading actual words again is so silly of me

not my usual kind of read but it was a entertaining read nonetheless. one thing about this book though, is that while reading it you can definitely tell it was written by a man because of all the weird horny descriptions of cecila. I was just minding my business, trying to enjoy the book and just kept getting accosted by those horrible descriptions.

More a 3.5...his earlier stuff out weighs this book...maybe if I had have started here and worked backwards it would have had a different effect. But still a superior novel.

finished in one plane sitting: it is astounding to me the deft and nuance and *accuracy* with which McEwan tells the coming of age of a teen girl from the pov of said teen girl. all of the intricacies and contradictions and obstinate intentions poured out in beautiful order. a meta work of art that made me sit back and marvel in the magic of language many many times. amen

The second half of the book was my reward for enduring the first half.
