AHH finally- their love, their bonds are becoming fully realized. After surviving what they have, having faced betrayal and lost and doubt and separation, these characters can finally start to figure out how to stop fighting each other, stop holding back, and face the enemy together. Alinthia wants to be the leader she’s looked at to be- to safe earth and defeat evil, but her men just want to protect her. General Arantu is unrelenting, and desperate. And the only way forward is to stop him once and for all. And to do that, this group has to be unbreakable, and Alinthia has to embody her destiny.

DANE- oh DANE. The walls must come down. All the feels in this story- so much emotional discovery and ups and downs. I forget how young our valiant heroine is- barely an adult, with the world on her shoulders. The dynamics of this book are perhaps my favorite yet- we have quiet intimacy, tender and sincere, humor, and then the epic stakes of the page turning action and deadly threats. While the action has me on the edge of my seat for the upcoming finale, what I love most are the hesitant but significant bonds between these characters. It’s hard enough being a teen and understanding emotions, yet alone being Chosen and in a relationship with complicated men in an otherworldly battle.

The final book can not get here fast enough- i know the finale is going to be epic, heart-wrenching, and emotional- but I have no doubt, Alinthia will find a way once she unlocks her full self and with the strength of the bonds she has with her protectors.

I forgot how much I enjoyed this series! This book has lots of angst, lots of steam, and some fun action. As Alinthia embraces her destiny, she finds that she can no longer ignore the divide within her inner circle.

Definitely new adult, as the characters act mature for their earth age.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

I love this series! This book we get to see all of them bond more. I was in tears at the end. Dane is that character you can’t help but love regardless of what comes. He is suffering and it’s causing them all to suffer. I love these characters. We all were waiting on Dane to implode, and that scene didn’t disappoint.

The other character that I loved was Beck. He is so sweet, and seeing him gain some confidence was amazing. I can’t say it enough. I love this series! I can’t wait for the last book!

Conflicted doesn't even begin to cover the way I feel about this book. There is so so much going on - the characters are dealing with the aftermath of their captivity, rescue, coming to terms with being a team.

But do we get an exploration of it, a story driven by the prophecy, Tori dealing with her issues, Dane dealing with his, killer action scenes as things heat up in the battle for the universe, space battles? No. What we get is so so so much sexy times and lust.

Yes, this is a reverse harem. But for all that the bond between the 5 is key to pretty much everything, there is no emotional development except like in the last 5% of the story. Which feels like it only happens because just no, all of this crap with Dane can't spill over into another book. I get that emotional maturity takes time, but hells...4 books later and there's barely anything?

As you can tell I'm incredibly frustrated by the disservice to the story and the characters that happened in this book. And it's made worse because I know this author writes amazingly. I'm fairly certain this is just a dip, and book 5 will be killer.

*I'm a lucky fish and on the author's arc team*

I received an eARC of this book from the author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of this review.

Please note there are spoilers to previous books in the following review. If you have not read the prior books in the Alinthia series, read at your own risk.

I’ve been reading Siobhan Davis since her first novel [b:True Calling|23293202|True Calling (True Calling, #1)|Siobhan Davis|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1456943208i/23293202._SY75_.jpg|42275397] released. You would think that I would know better by now than to start one of her books before bed. But y’all I’ll never learn, and I’ll happily lose sleep every time. The Chosen One is the fourth book in Davis’s Alinthia series and wastes no time in throwing the reader into the action. Picking up almost exactly where [b:The Warrior Princess|39329164|The Warrior Princess (Alinthia #3)|Siobhan Davis|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1527868972i/39329164._SY75_.jpg|60954624] left off, Alinthia and her protectors are back on Earth, an Earth that is currently surrounded by Arantu’s army. Her job is simple now, reveal herself to the galaxy and build an army of her own.

Division Among the Ranks
Alinthia and her protectors went through hell and back during the last book. Her protectors were captives or Arantu and his daughter. Dane suffered most at the hands of Alandra. His PTSD affects the entire group, Alinthia the most. Alinthia wants to help Dane. Of her four protectors, he is the leader and also the one that has never fully opened up to her. She makes herself available for him, showing that he can trust her if need be. Yet he continues to hold back, his character arc is heart-breaking. Siobhan Davis handles his character with care and shows the depths of his feelings for the readers.

Cooper, Beck, and Maddox are also still dealing with their time in captivity. However because their torture was different than Dane’s (remember he took the brunt for them), they take every minute they can to show Alinthia their love and devotion. I forgot how much I love each of them. They are fully fleshed out and bring their own unique gifts to the team. Beck is still my favorite though

If you’ve been following this series, then you know that Alinthia and her 4 protectors (Dane, Maddox, Beckett and Cooper) were brought together as babies and bonded with magic. Then then were ripped apart from each other and grew up the 4 protectors separated from Alinthia. They were taught of the prophecy that centered around Alinthia and her protectors, that their bond was important in helping her be the savior of the universe. But Alinthia grew up on earth with her memory wiped, not knowing of her protectors, their bond, or the prophecy.

Now that Alinthia is reunited with her protectors and the bond growing and her powers getting stronger, they run across some pretty traumatic things that happen to them. Now as a result of that some of the protectors’ bond with Alinthia is growing stronger, but some is growing non existent. My heart cries for suffering that goes on and i worry, because if they don’t repair the bond then Alinthia won’t be able to defeat General Arantu (the threat to the universe).

In this book, The Chosen One, things get really hot & steamy between Alinthia and her protectors. Except for one, where things are pretty cold & distant. Can Alinthia keep her protectors close and strengthen her bond? My heart was aching so much for all the hurting & pain. I had tears sliding down my face. But she has her other protectors who tell her they love and cherish her all the time. They’re so sweet and so loving. When General Arantu‘s men attack earth Alinthia takes them out. But Alinthia has nightmares where some creature is trying to kill her and it’s like what happens in her nightmares really happens, so she becomes afraid to sleep.

This book touches on the paranormal/sci-fi aspect, but i think it focused more on their relationships as the Chosen One and her Protectors. Their bond is important, and we see how the three of them have opened up to it and become so much closer to Alinthia. But we also see that link that is fragile, that is breaking and needs help and isn’t accepting it. This book was so important in bringing us to the final book. I loved it. Those complex characters were written so well, not just their dialogue and their thoughts, but their actions as well. I’m really looking forward to the last book!! Very Highly Recommended!!
