Great adventure, interesting to read the point-of-view of a white British man in the mid to late 1800's and the customs/rules towards black people. I feel as though this book is the 1800's version of the movie 300 (Sparta), the Kukuana tribe was bizarre and very intriguing.

Eu simplesmente amei.

Classic adventure tale! Gold, angry tribes, scary rituals, and lots of death. Couldn't put it down!

Very much a story written by a white Victorian man for other white Victorian men. After reading "Lost City of Z," I didn't find Quartermain a particularly impressive character.

Like the Jungle Book, I read the abridged version of this for English class when I was in school. They might as well have scratched "English" out and replaced it with "Colonialism 101." I hope the kids are reading better content now with the SNC but I doubt it.

I tried to read this and I've been struggling with it.
Not sure if it's the writing style or the way that Haggard wrote this story that reflects the time and mind set of people outside of their own social bubbles but I can't get into this and rather than struggle, I'm DNFing it and moving on.
