This book is an autobiography of Iceberg Slim who was a pimp in the mid 90s. His life is so interesting it is definitely worthy of a book. I was warned that there is a lot of slang and at the beginning I found myself needing to consult the slang glossary every 3rd word. I will pass along that warning to people reading. I actually think the slang glossary only contained about ⅓ of the words I wanted to look up. The good news is I did end up picking up on some of his use of slang and it became easier to understand by the end but I wonder how many things I missed. Still a great story and worth reading.

This was an interesting read that at first , I felt I couldn't finish because of the mentality , the way so much thing happened especially to the women . But at the same time , this was his life story and the time period for those things to happen . For one , I realized he never realized his dreams were a warning . A message about the way he treat women and seeing him treat his mother worst in his dreams didn't click for him . But , he was honest about his mistakes and what he thought he wanted out of it proved to him that in the end , it was never worth it . That he did more damage to himself and set himself up for failure in a world that made it possible to do so . He wasn't going to beat the outcome he tried so desperately to . By the end , I'm glad he realized his mistakes and made a complete 360 .

Extremely fast paced, but also very vivid and detailed. Definitely brutal yet beyond interesting. Loved Ice T's foreword, it only added to the whole experience.

I finally finished. It was really difficult to get through. I’d pick it up and read a few pages just to put it down again. It’s hard to stomach the way women were described and treated. However, Slim’s writing style reads a lot like prose, and his tone creates such vivid moments and scenes. From a sociological standpoint this is gold standard.
