I purchased this book a while ago but didn't pick it up until a week after the passing of my cat, Finn. I knew this was what I needed to read and it has helped and comforted me greatly.

The book itself is broken into chapters, each character having their own. I often read just one story at a time, meaning that the book read quickly and had a fast pace, but I took my time reading it. The writing was clear, easy to follow, and didn't feel repetitive at all. I was moved and inspired, but it was also light enough that I wasn't bawling the whole way through.

I know the author has an accent and I'm not sure if that was what was coming through the writing, but some parts read a little awkwardly, but that may just be where I'm from!

I hope more people read this lovely book, and maybe it will offer some comfort.

Hadley shares her story interwoven with a handful of her patients as a hospice nurse. It's a beautiful collection of life lessons while navigating end of life. The interweave of time around those two threads didn't always work for me, but I could have listened to this book for double the amount of time. A 'keep me up past my bedtime' kind of book. I'll definitely be passing it along to other friends who have walked with a loved one through hospice.

I loved this book, but it also reminded me why I'm a neonatal nurse. I'm so thankful for nurses like Hadley!
