I had higher hopes for this but it was just OK. It wasn't very gripping and I got bored/distracted easily.

This was a very well-written and gripping book. The story of The Wager is simply told, pulling together multiple historical accounts in a way that is very effective.

The thing I really appreciated about this book is the fact it’s very to the point. There’s not a lot of waffle - it’s gets straight to it and doesn’t elaborate or digress too much. It’s also not that long, either, for this sort of historical non-fiction, which was quite refreshing to me.

The story is, naturally, quite a compelling one, and I think this simpler method of narration worked really well. It was just a very easy read. The ending of the book was a little weak; it felt a bit rushed, although I’m not sure what more there was to say.

Overall this is a gripping account of a complex historical event, full of twists and turns, effectively told without too extra detail. It was a very solid non-fiction read.

A great retelling of a 18th century shipwreck and mutiny. I give this a good 4 stars. I didn’t particularly enjoy the narrator of the book. I found him hard to understand at points. I think I would have enjoyed just reading the book more.
