I really enjoyed this book. We had read on of Allen's books for my book club last year (Lost Lake), which I enjoyed. She has a deft touch with magical realism - there is just enough of it to be fun, but not so much to be overwhelming. She is also very good at multi-generational characters, which is not easy.

I just love Sarah Addison Allen’s style of writing. Last time I read her was in high school and this book felt like a warm welcome hug. The plot is pretty simple and kinda too ya for my taste, but I love the characters and all the little magic they can do. The descriptions of the food, the yard raining blossoms, the halloween party… so beautiful and so magical, like always.

Garden Spells was one of my favorite books so I was extra excited to read this. First Frost lived up to all my expectations. I loved it and have recommended it to several friends. Sarah Addison Allen is one of the best authors out right now. Her books never seem to disappoint.
