(3.75 stars) This book was true to its tagline- a lovely fantasy pride and prejudice adaption, with dragons! Had lots of ohmygosh they’re so cute moments, along with “oh” moments of ah, so this how she’s adapting this character/plot for the story. Nice!

If you like Jane Austen and are a fan of the fantasy genre, definitely give it a read!

This book was mostly what it promised to be: Pride and Prejudice with dragons. Because I like both those things I enjoyed it until the last few chapters, at which point it went weirdly over the top and the romance fell flat. But it was a quick, fun read.

Ahh, such a fun book! I Love retellings and this one was certainly an interesting one. Solid 3 stars

The fantasy element was super cool, loved the dragons and the little hobo goblins! I thought these added elements in a Regency world were so bonkers but so cool! I wish the book had a more whimsical vibe to it, like Alice and Wonderland. Just something to really distinguish it as a fantasy novel. Especially since the original is very much grounded in reality.

I thought the character changes in the book were interesting, though it didn’t really feel like these new characters truly got to breathe or have their own voice. But I still liked the changes! It made the story more of its own and not a copy and paste of pride and prejudice with a dragon or two sprinkled within.

LORD Kitty dying??? Gagged. Loved it. Truly set the course for the book and it added so much more to the characters and their stories.

Now for our main girl Aliza! I did actually like her a lot. Liked that she was friends with the creatures, that she could draw and that she truly cared for the people around her. Though something that actually pissed me off is when she didn’t accept Daried’s offer of learning to fight. LIKE COME ON AUTHOR! That would’ve been so good!!!! God fr it would’ve been such great scenes, but that didn’t happen so whatever.

Now for our Mr. Darcy, Daried! He’s okay! A solid 7/10 for me! A little too much of an asshole in some parts. I mean he’s never truly an asshole but I just think at some parts it could’ve been written better. Besides that, he’s so hot! God him riding a dragon, their meeting in the greenhouse when he’s shirtless. It’s everything. He still has the Mr. Darcy charm.

The rest of the book is okay. The actual monster adventure plot of the novel is mid. Binglys sister dying at the end was cool. But like a giant worm? That’s the big bad? LMFAO

I don’t think Aliza and Whickam actually bonded that much. He just told her the tea and dipped it. Which I guess is fine but in the og, it made more sense why she believed Whickam so easily, because she thought they were friends. But them making Whickam straight-up evil was so much fun! Like damn, he legit THREW Lydia to the worm

This was fun! I admit I kind of expected it to be another lowkey lazy transference of Pride and Prejudice into a new genre with just some names changed like we see so often, but I appreciated the clever way the story was laid out in the fantasy world the author created. I’m looking forward to the next books!

I liked it, but I didn't think it was amazing. It's a fantasy adventure (with dragons! And garden gnomes! And other magical creatures!) and also a retelling of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. The P&P plot was recognizable and the author did some mildly clever things with it. Overall the book was fun and entertaining. I guess I'm giving it faint praise because it has the P&P love story, but none of the irony or process of self-knowledge I find so refreshing and would like to see in every spin-off.
