This is such an interesting topic. Are serial killers born bad? Is it in their DNA? Is Nurture or nature true. I thought this book was going to be predictable but there were a few twists and turns to keep me interested. I did find it a bit slow in places though. The whole book is kind of an odd pace which meant I struggled to get into it but once I found my rhythm I enjoyed the story. I really liked Imogen and I wanted to know what would happen to her. This book really does show what a lack of communication can do.

I received a copy of the ebook via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Like Mother, Like Daughter....amazing! If you have not read a book by this author why not? You like twisty stories that continue to surprise you? Elle Croft is the perfect writer for you. Guilty Wife and The Other Sister are both fantastic reads and Like Mother, Like Daughter did not disappoint. It is a book that you won’t want to put down, needing to know where it was going to take you next. Absolutely fantastic book.

It is hard to say too much about the story without spoiling it. It is best to go into this book pretty much blind. What I will say is that we hear the story from the points of view of 3 women... Imogen, who is 16 and struggling to fit in with her family, Kat, Imogen’s adoptive mother who is terrified that Imogen will be like her birth mother, and Sally, the birth mother who is a serial killer. We see how each of these women deal with the situation that they are in.

When you think you know what will happen guess again! Elle Croft is so good at the plot twist, seriously, this story will rock you, right up to the very last page. Oh, and it is set in Australia, South Australia for something different. I cannot recommend it more.

Thanks so much Hachette Books Australia for my advanced copy to read.

Kat's children are both smart and well-adjusted. On the outside.

Kat has always tried to treat Imogen and Jemima equally, but she struggles with one of her daughters more than the other.

Because Imogen's birth mother is a serial killer. And Imogen doesn't know.

Let’s start by saying that I finished this book in one day. I just sat and read and read and read. It was great! It was the first thriller that I have picked up in a little while and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Not too creepy, but with a few twists and turns to keep you guessing. I had a feeling that the revelation at the end would be the way it was - I just had this feeling that it wasn’t all as it seemed. It’s not the most unique and brilliant thriller that I’ve ever read, but it kept me hooked until the final page and I really enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a thriller that isn’t going to leave you with nightmares. Do be aware that it does deal with crimes against children though, so the topic is not going to be for everyone.

I flew through this. Different perspectives and a fast paced plot make a really easy read!
I wanted to explore nature versus nuture- does having serial killers for parents make you violent? Or does the prejudice of your adoptive parents and their treatment make you violent? I think this could have been explored in more detail.
The pace was good, plot and characters kept me engaged. A good thriller!

My Review

This was a gripping psychological thriller told from 3 POV’s Mum Kat, daughter Imogen and serial killer Sally Sanders Imogen’s biological mother who is incarcerated in a maximum-security prison for her part in what the media dubbed Satan’s Ranch.

Fifteen years prior Sally and her husband Tim carried out a reign of terror behind closed doors there own children their victims.
Imogen now with a new identity and no idea she was adopted and who she used to be is living as Imogen Braidwood with mum Kat, dad Dylan and younger sister Jemima.

Then one morning kat discovers Imogen is not in her bed she’s missing presumed a runaway.
And as events start to unfold further and with the police and kat digging deeper into the past and present an alternate scenario start to emerge one that fills Kat with pure dread for her daughter.

This was fast-paced and well written a real page-turner that easily kept my attention.
It’s full of twists and turns and that finish was superb and though I did suspect I still enjoyed this a lot.
I can definitely recommend this and if you like your psychological thrillers this one was very good, thumbs up from me.

Thank you to Elle Croft for my dedicated copy, gifted to me at Christmas 2020 (or rather, 2021, thanks Covid!) from my Mum. This book posed thought-provoking questions, and the plots twists that raised my eyebrows were definitely worth the wait.

“What if there was no cure because this is just who you are? It taunted her. What if this darkness is in your blood”

An absolutely fantastic thriller. I was hooked from the first chapter. A real page Turner. I didn’t expect the ending and the twist was so unexpected!
