James Baldwin’s writing is brilliant. I hope to read more of his works (and reread this one a few more times). He incorporates love -“a state of being, daring, quest, and growth”- into his discussion of racial injustice and urges us to face this country’s legacy. His writing is passionate and as important today as it was then.

"The very time I thought I was lost, My dungeon shook and my chains fell off."

Powerful and timeless. I will need to reread "Letter from a Region in my Mind" to fully begin to understand it. I felt like I didn't know enough about the historical context in which the letter was written.
