I enjoyed the historical aspects and the poignant storyline of the Foss family as this was a life (-style?) I was previously unaware of. I was also unaware of the Tennessee Children’s Home Society’s existence and history, but am unsurprised at the ease humans can mistreat each other. I could have easily done without the present day story of Avery.

LOVED this book. It was interesting, not too predictable, played on your emotions soooo hard, and was really just a good read. The characters are easy to fall in love with. The story will probably tear you apart and hopefully enlighten you a bit on adoption and it's history.

I had no idea about the events that inspired this novel. Loved following the mystery with the characters.

An interesting format for a historical novel. In the beginning it’s difficult to understand how our two different perspectives relate but once you figure it out (which is easy to do pretty early on) the story gets a little drawn out. It was heartbreaking to learn of the true conditions of places like the Tennessee children’s home and if I had not read this book I would have never know about it. However I had a hard time getting through it after figuring out what the big reveal would be.

I enjoyed this book as found it touching. Lead to me reading more about these orphanages that really existed and the terrible way vulnerable adults and children were treated.
