I found this on the 2023 Mock Caldecott list.  Amazing Artwork.  I love it.  I'm going to have to keep my eye on Khoa Le who created the artwork.  It was special and there was just a spark that resonated with me.  It was 5 stars for the artwork, for sure.

I've been saying that for people there are like sun plants and shade plants.  I'm a shade plant, I will wilt in the sun.  I need those cloudy days.  Here is a character like me.  Beatrice like night and the shade and she isn't a fan of the sun.  How wonderful to get a character who gets it.  I feel so different sometimes.  I don't like coffee, I love cloudy, rainy days and I enjoy the cold.  There aren't a whole lot of us out there.  This is a coffee drinking sun worshiping culture.

Beatrice has a sister who loves the sunshine.  They are opposites.  This story is nice because the sisters find common ground and can honor the differences of the other.  It's a great little story.  I highly recommend it.  It should probably be a 5 star read.  I could read this more than once.

What a fabulous picture book! This one gave me all the feels. I love that the sisters each have their own things that they love (super healthy), don’t really understand each other (super typical), but still care about each other tremendously (super sweet). The scenes where they’re sharing the best parts of what they love with their sister were exquisite. The illustrations are breathtaking—the little details are lovely. I adored the text, lots of big words backed up by the pictures. The repetition of dark dark dark and light light light was particularly enjoyable. I think this would be a great read aloud.

I checked this out from the Humphreys County Library System through interlibrary loan via the Mississippi Library Commission.

Breathtakingly gorgeous. I love everything about this book and can see myself returning to it again and again for the sweet story and incredible art. Khoa Le's illustrations are my new favorite thing ever.

I like that Beatrice likes the dark and cute creepy things. I like the idea of children learning how light and dark balance each other out. Cute illustrations. But the writing was difficult to read… too bulky… I was disappointed by the actual writing (word choices) not the story.
