Maybe short stories aren’t for me unless they’re gothic horror stories. I just found myself thinking ‘what?!’ at the end of every single one of these. Even the one I started to like about the children’s camp, I was left like okay... so now what and then it cut off and moved to another story. Like too much and nothing happened all at the same time... not for me.

Reading this was slow and painful, it reaffirmed my 'unpopular' opinion that Atwood truly cannot write

it’s hard to rate this because some stories i really enjoyed and others i didn’t care for at all. i’ll go for 3 stars because as usual atwood’s writing is amazing but most of the stories just didn’t speak to me.

While these stories are cohesive and include several prominent themes of Atwood's work, they just aren't my favorites. For me these felt a bit more flat than some of her other work; I personally think she's one of those authors who just needs the space a novel affords, as her best work is in the complex, layered story where she reveals slowly the reality she's created.
