Re-read: Honestly I probably should have read this sooner but oh well. Anyways, I had forgotten just how simple and nice this first book was. While I do appreciate a good old web of interconnected characters and stories, it is good to see just a plain old story about people wanting to meet their loved ones. Also, the fact that
The Woman in White deliberately got up from the chair because a lost small part of her saw herself and her motherly love for Kazu in Kei is just 🥹.

If a book makes me cry, I find that it’s a good book. A chapter of this book had me bawling.

A short but packed read. I really enjoyed the world it took me to and the stories inside just one cafe. If you’re a fan of the real world with a bit of magic, you will like this!

it grew on me.......... slow to start and also im always rubbish at books with lots of names in them but the writing felt a bit plain to me?? it didnt help that i had just finished reading an incredibly descriptive book + was simultaneously reading another. unsure if i recommend. some bits felt a bit uncomfortably misogynistic but it was. you know. fine. its a fine book. i almost dnfd before the first short story had finished because i just hated fumikos character LOL but i felt bad judging a translated book with english criteria. so i finished + wouldnt read again but its not long so i dont think it was a waste. it got better toward the end i think.

I will say the start of this book is slow, and I did have to tough it out a bit but I am so glad I did. This is an excellent story about owning your place in the world and the decisions you make. It very much reads like a play (which makes sense given the author's background) and I love it. If it's caught your eye it's certainly worth a try.
