It took me many days to finish this because it's so good that I didn't want it to end. Do read the novel, The Curse of Jacob Tracy, first; it will inform some of what happens in this prequel. The representation, the honoring of intelligence while never giving ground on the educated who insist on their righteousness, the creepiness of spirits bent on darkness. But best of all, the prose. I am delighted to have happened upon this author early in her novel writing career, may there be many, many more.
