I wanted to like this more than I did but I just couldn’t connect with it. I agreed with a lot of what was said but none of the ideas were new to me and I found the tone of it sort of frustrating, very religious and heterosexual and (I think) more preachy than informative, felt like surface level rambling rather than a deep dive and by the last few chapters I just felt sort of annoyed more than anything else

I think this book would’ve really blown my mind if I’d read it a few years ago. There are definitely parts of it that will stick with me, but a lot of the heavy hitting points made are more common knowledge now. Which I guess is a testament to the enormous influence/effect it had when it was first published.

I was really excited to read this book because of how many people claimed how groundbreaking it’s supposed to be. I, on the other hand, did not feel that way and was reading to find that moment that would seemingly change my view or behavior on love, how to approach it, give it, etc. It didn’t tell me anything new and, though, I appreciate and agree with a lot of the things that she said, many of her claims seemed biased and didn’t have much evidence. Also, the personal examples of her discourse in love with the people in her life showcased herself in a way that would win her points in a therapy session. Now, I am reluctant to read Communion. Maybe I will have the energy to read it one day.

Great insights on what true love is and the importance of love. My one negative is that it is a bit redundant.
