A maddening journey into a woman's outrageous desire to have the man she loves love her back, treat her with respect, and pay attention to her. The slow drip of her love's malicious taking-for-granted drives the narrator crazy, but no more than it would any of us. This isn't the traditional chauvinist tale of a woman going mad, but a woman having a completely sane response to utterly ridiculous and entitled behavior. The translation is gaunt and prickly, and perfect for the point of view.
