A reread for me. More trashy than I remember. Picked these up after watching some of True Blood, originally, so I always picture those actors when I read. Some of the stuff that I probably thought was folksy and Southern on first reading now comes across less benign. A good, but not great, junk read.

2.4/5 this was a ride going back and forth between negative and positive. There were parts that I was on the edge of my seat to hear (audiobook) what's going to happen next, and some areas that were just really weirdly written. Probably won't continue the series, but glad I read the first book in series.

I tried, I really did, but this was awful. Aside from the weird dialogue and the stilted writing, I didn't actually like the protagonist, so it was VERY unlikely I was going to hang in there for the entire series.

Yes, completely a guilty pleasure. In this world of grad school articles, teenager "literature", making the world better textbooks....I needed something light, cheesy....and FUN...especially for the train and to numb my mind before passing out in bed.
Story: crazy, non-realistic story about vampires....and girls who can read minds....
Writing: a bit adolescent. definitely junkstore romance.

Fun and kept me doing some work.

I've never watched True Blood, so I have nothing to compare this to. I'm going to be honest: I read about 60% before skimming through the remaining 40% because I was about done with it but I had gone far enough that I wanted to see how it ended. In short, this book is kind of awful.

Cons:
- bad writing
- meh plot
- homophobia
- biphobia
- racist
- slut shames like nobody's business
- the romance is kind of rape-y
- probably referring to telepathy as a disability; that just seems side-eye worthy
- Sookie because she's just plain awful

Pros:
- vampires that have to avoid sunlight and actually sleep in the dirt, which is awesome
- Bill has nice sideburns
- ????
- that's about it really

That's all I got. I'm skipping the rest of this series. It's too long for me to waste my time with it.
