A classic mystery. I loved unraveling the clues and getting to make my guess of who-dunnit. The pace was good, building enough tension with small moments that keep you going, and then the ending was at the perfect time that there was a decent amount of denouement and wrapping up. An enjoyable read!

Loved the setting and a few of the characters as well as the app- it was a fun idea that was fleshed out well. I didn't like the reveal- the killer's characterization took such a sharp turn from what it had been which felt lame, and the motivation ultimately didn't feel quite strong enough.

Spoilera bit cliche/obvious about who ends up being the killer, but not too bad of a book. it was a bit too similar to The Hunting Party, which i have read before this book, so that’s probably why it was quite easy to guess who the murderer was. also didn’t like how they had Liz sort of hella change near the end of the book and how she sort of did a 180 and was like not shy or nervous all of a sudden.

Loved the suspense and I was falling for every red herring! I think I like a few other Ruth Ware novels better, so I ranked this one a smidgen lower just to reflect that.

I just think the scenes following the Big Reveal felt a bit awkward and didn't really pull the ending together how I was expecting. Still great for the mystery and suspense though!

Pensive, mysterious, uneasy

A music app company has rented out a chalet for their upper level managers and shareholders to discuss company logistics and future direction.
We're following two POVs. One character worked for the music app company, and one is a staff member at the chalet.
Set in the French Alps.

Growls, Howls, and Tail Wags 🐺🐕:
  • 👍 Pacing was consistent. There were action-adventure survival elements without being OTT, cheesy, "as if" or dragging on and on.
  • 👍 Possible predictable villain, but enough red herrings for doubt to form. I guessed correctly in that way where I technically guessed EVERYONE was a suspect at some point. Even when I knew who was causing chaos I wanted to keep reading to see how things play out.

Cred Rating: Realistic/Plausible

Mood Reading Match Up:
  • Isolated setting
  • Locked door/closed circle murder mystery
  • Modern Agatha Christie retelling energy
  • Snowy winter vibes with skiing and snowboarding

Content Head-Up: Sexual harassment. Blackmail. Avalanche.

Format: Paperback
