I really liked the previous Dexter books. They were funny and entertaining. I liked them because they were the witty inner monologue of a killer. This one is the inner monologue of someone who has become a father for the first time. And that is exactly as annoying as listening to new parents about their baby.

The books want you to believe that Dexter gets away with murder because he is careful and intelligent and follows the Harry Code. But I have come to believe it is mostly because of the utter incompetence of the Miami PD. How come nobody ever questions that Dexter is somehow always in the middle of police investigations doing stuff that is 100% not his job? How come Deborah remains a Seargent even though he clearly doesn't give a shit about protocol and always brings her unarmed brother? What does she write in her reports?

Also at this point it is kinda hard to overlook the fact that Dexter doesn't do anything around the house and expects Rita to cater to his every need. This was written in the 21st century, right? Makes him sound less like someone who fakes being a pleasent human being so well and more like an asshole.

Here's hoping the next one will be better.
