A year after reading this book and I often still think of the stories in this novel. They are powerful, thought-provoking and heartbreaking. This is not a light read, nor is it an easy read. But it is a book that will stick with you well after you have finished the novel.

I could not finish it. I found the dialogue/language very very distracting and I just could not get into the stories. I expected them to be very emotional and heart-wrenching but I just couldn't connect with any of the characters.

Perhaps the most moving and insightful piece of fiction I have ever read. From the lips and hearts of children come the grimy details of life in Africa. However, as should be cherished and expected, there is beauty to behold on this continent in these words. Say you’re one of Them is a series of 5 stories that explore 5 different African nations from the prespective of 5 African children. It is a gripping, heartrending, and powerful read

Books I've read and provided detailed reviews over the years but all data is lost after accidental deletion and GD refuse to restore it back.

Adding books back to my library for my own reference and tracking purposes

A little difficult to read because of the slang, but the stories are impacting and eye opening

So, while this is not my favorite book, it is not because it does not have merit or truth or literary value. Rather, it was hard to read because of the sheer emotional heaviness. If I am going to read about such hard topics, I personally prefer non-fiction. But that is not to say there isn't a place for volumes such as this.

This was a hard read; yet really important. I'm glad I read it and highly recommend it to anyone interested in Africa and the resilience of children.

These were all wonderful stories in their own way. Very deep, very touching, very troubling - but all beautifully told.
