An Ominous Explosion by Lynn Messina

This one was okay, I sort of suspected the person who did it. This case centers around an explosion of a steam machine that killed its inventor. Bea was on the demonstration and had seen the explosion up close and there was something suspicious about it. I would have maybe enjoyed a bit more Bea and Kesgrave banter, but it was a good book nonetheless.

3.5 stars. This series continues to just hit the right cozy mystery spot for me. I'm writing this review over two months after I read the book, frankly I can't remember the details of the plot, but I sure did enjoy Bea and Kesgrave doing their thing.

The latest adventure for Beatrice Hyde-Clare aka the Duchess of Kesgrave does not disappoint. I really enjoyed how the author planted the clues along the way that led us to the killer, but also made space to continue to grow the relationship between the Duke and Duchess. The latter is also coming into her own as she realizes that she can send the footmen on errands to help her collect information.
Looking forward to the next book in the series!

The speed at which I read this is probably unhealthy. But after stalking the kindle website for over a week just waiting for the release, it was absolutely worth it.

This mystery seemed a lot more convoluted than the others. It was still fun & interesting! I always love more of Bea and the Duke. And Vera's unexpected volunteering at the beginning of the book was hilarious. Looking forward to seeing what she does next.

Beatrice Hyde-Clare doesn't believe all deaths in London are the result of a sinister plot. But in the case of Peter Huzza, she has a few concerns that it was not an innocent accident. With the help of her husband, the Duke of Kesgrave, she works it all out and solves the mystery.

I should point out that previously I had only read the first book in this series and so I have missed out on a few details from earlier stories. But that didn't stop my enjoyment of the tenth book in the series. I am a bit of a sucker for these regency cozy mysteries and this did not disappoint. There's a mystery, witty banter between the couple and some clever investigation.

Overall, a fun read that I give 3.5 stars. Thank you to Netgalley and Potatoworks Press for giving me an advanced reader copy. I am providing this review voluntarily.
