A unique personal transformation trip that initiated a movement back in the 70s and that is full of wisdom that still sounds forward thinking today

I’ve heard many people talk about and quote Ram Dass, so I was excited to read Be Here Now. This book was far from what I expected. Even if I was to ignore to the trippy pictures and the imperfect English, most of the wisdom in this book I’ve heard before - its all Alan Watts/Buddhist/Zen teachings. Maybe this book is intended to be a collection of great sayings? Even if so, the fragmented structure and grammatical errors in the book I could not ignore and ultimately made me not enjoy this book.

This book is awesome if you read it as poetry. Fails multiple times though, if it's read as philosophy. I still love it.

The message may be useful, but the content in incomprehensible: from his language to the borderline-crazy drawings - none of that helped convey his ideas. The biographical section was helpful in understanding of his path.

This was a struggle for me. First third was a lot of LSD; a drug that honestly terrifies me. Then came the interesting drawings/poetry that didn't look the best on my cell phone - I read the Libby version. All of this mixed with chapters that were not what I anticipated. Rather than life lessons on the road to 'Be Here Now' clarity, large sections of the book was quotes from famous gurus and Jesus. Maybe I shouldn't have read it straight though and opted to ingest it in small doses? Either way, I did not feel elevated enough to truly grasp this book.

This book will challenge you and also set you free. Baba Ram Dass is everyone’s guru. This book also speaks to everyone, no matter your religion.
