Very well researched and shows many of the paintings and artworks discussed in the story. The ending however leaves you wondering if the story was merely you meandering in and out of someone's life with no purpose or plot. If you want well written check it out, however if you expect plot perhaps search elsewhere?

I loved this book so much! It's short but Matar's writing is absolutely beautiful. I enjoyed being let inside his head and hearing his thoughts, which he articulated so well. I liked his discussion of art, life, love, people and places. I feel like this is one that will stick with me and that I'll think of often. The physical book itself was also gorgeous. The pages are thick and the photos are printed in colour. I would love to read Matar's other work in the future.

Reflective travel memoir. Hisham Matar admires Renaissanc Sienese painting and makes a month-long pilgrimage in Siena, looking at paintings, reflecting about life and loss.
