Less than zero stars. This might have been the most asinine book I have ever read. EVER. Seriously. What was the point? There was no real reason that Byatt was so important to Hettie except because Power said so. There was a TINY reference to climate impact on the tox AT THE END OF THE BOOK. This was ridiculous. I am so mad I spent hours of my life reading this DRIVEL. AND IT WAS NOT WELL WRITTEN. GARBAGE. I was waiting for all these girls to band together and kick major ass and take over the world, but they stayed selfish, snivelly, and ABSOLUTELY MISERABLE TO READ ABOUT. THE WORST BOOK EVER.

I had wanted to read this book forever and when I finally got it, I had such a hard time getting into it. The story dragged forever. Like I kept putting it down and not picking it up because it just didn't grab my attention. But I finally made myself finish it and honestly, the ending was a massive let down. It felt like nothing really happened even though things actually did happen. Honestly, it reminded me of a YA version of Annihilation. Beautiful imagery, but nothing to write home about.

I think I was expecting more Lord-of-the-Flies and less body horror, but I liked this! Weird to read it in a post-pandemic world, though.

A very grim and depressing story of girls attending a private school, that is located on an isolated island, and they are overcome with a contagious virus that causes bizarre deformities. Even the animals that inhabit the island are affected and become extremely vicious. I gave it 3 stars, not because it wasn't well written, but because this isn't my favorite type of story. I guess I'm more of a happy ending sort of person.

Very underwhelming. With a cover like that I was expecting so much more.

I made it 40% and had to stop. The writing is horrible! I'm not sure how I made it so far in this damn book. 40% and nothing happened.

I truly wanted to love this book. I had heard only great things about it. I love the cover. I loved the synopsis for the book, but I hate to say that this one just wasn't for me. I am honored for the opportunity to review it but I just didn't care for this book. I feel like everything was rushed. The characters had none to little development. None of the characters were likable or even genuine. I felt like details should have been added when referring to the island and the concept of the creatures. It just felt like a void. I finished this book within a day, it was a quick read, but it just felt like a book full of fluff. After I closed it, I tried to think about what I had gained from reading it, and the answer was nothing. It was like a lot of stuff was said, and nothing done.
